Stacking the Shelves is hosted by Tynga's Reviews - it's a way for us to chat about the books we bought, borrowed, or received during the week.

Mentioned:

For review:
The Eternity Cure by Julie Kagawa
Anthem for Jackson Dawes by Celia Bryce
The Best Man by Kristin Higgins - not sure if I'll read this, so if it's something you'd like to read, let me know!

Purchased at a book fair:
I found 3 more Georgia books to add to my collection - Angus, Thongs, and Full-Frontal Snogging, Dancing in my Nuddy Pants, and Stop in the Name of Pants! all by Louise Rennison

And I grabbed a bunch of Aussie YA:
The Whole Business with Kiffo and the Pitbull by Barry Jonsberg
Game as Ned by Tim Pegler
Being Bindy by Alyssa Brugman
The Cave by Susanne Gervay
Genesis (The Rosie Black Chronicles #1) by Lara Morgan

*Notes from the Teenage Underground is in the photo but I bought it to giveaway to an international reader

And while I'm here I thought I'd add some photos from during the week. If you didn't watch the vlog, there was a book event on in Sydney and I had Michelle from Maree's Musings come and stay with me. We went into the city to do some book shopping, then went to the Harlequin Summit, and I got to catch up with Sydney bloggers and meet a bunch that I hadn't met before, locals and some from interstate. We also went to Manly, painted our nails, and chatted about books, a lot ;) It was a really great week!

First up, Michelle gave me some beautiful shells as a thank you gift

The next morning we went into the city

We went to a book store, Dymocks, and visited their huge YA section

I bought a copy of Girl Defective so Michelle can get it signed at an event she's attending later this month

We had lunch with a view of Hyde Park and then walked down to Circular Quay

That night we went to the Harlequin Summit, here's a look at what we were given (I'm happy to giveaway With All My Soul and Wicked Kiss to anyone who wants them).

The people at Harlequin were really lovely and so excited for the books they have coming out in 2013. We were given a run down of the YA and adult titles, they have a few Aussie debuts this year which is fantastic. After the talks by the publicists we got to chat with other bloggers and later moved to a local hotel for dinner and more talking. It was really fun to catch up with bloggers I'd already met before: Sarah, Kim, Kerrie, Kat, and to meet ones I hadn't: Belle, Shaheen, Michelle, Bree, Shelleyrae, Jaz, Shirley, Becca, Amy, and Hannah.

The following day we went to Manly, my most favourite place in the world, even when it's not sunny

We had pancakes at Pure

And lastly I painted our nails before it was time to take Michelle to the airport (Michelle's are green, mine are yellow)

It was a crazy, fun week :)

Awwwwww! It looks like you had so much fun! And I'm jealous all my Aussie girls got together because I want to meet you all so badly! Kat, Jaz, Saz, :D. At least I get to see you at BEA. Well, I hope I do! Sydney looks awesome! That bookstore looks awesome! You have to go to the Strand in NYC when you get there. I will try to get there as well. I have heard so much about it. You have me so excited for BEA now even though this wasn't the same thing. LOL!

your post just affirmed my I WANT TO BE AUSTRALIAN sentiment even more, omg. all the food looks so good and it just looks like such a lovely city overall! also the Harlequin Summit sounds fantastic, pretty tote bag. I want to read Girl Detective, I already love the title.

Sound fabulous, Mandee! So excited for the Eternity Cure, I've just requested it, hope to have it in an upcoming StS. Kristan Higgins is pretty good, I've only read one of her books but it made me laugh out loud "Too Good to be True". The plot sounded like nothing special and then I started to read, and even though I wasn't surprised by what happened between the characters it ended up being a lot more fun than I'd thought.

I had no idea there was a Hyde Park down under! And now that I've googled it and bet that I simply forgot it featuring in Aussie movies/books.

Enjoy your haul :)

I had such a wonderful time! Thanks for doing this recap :)

Also, I'm so glad you could get more Georgia Nicholson books with matching covers :)

I love your pictures, and those shells were so pretty.

Also, I read and reviewed the Best Man, its a romance yeah, don't think it's what you usually read and I can't really say it was the best of Higgins (Though admittedly, it wasnt the worst)

Dymocks looks awesome!! :)

I loved reading this whole post, mandee.

your day out looks awesome. i love Manly as well (in fact, that is where Pete proposed to me, haha)

you should try the Kristan Higgins, you might end up liking it? She is pretty fun and a relaxing rainy day kind of read x

Jenni @ Alluring Reads said...

haha the Georgia Nicholson books are so much fun, I probably shouldn't have liked them as much as I did but oh wells. Great haul! I can't decide if I want to read The Eternity Cure, I wasn't a HUGE fan of The Immortal Rules, but I imagine the next book would have a lot less walking. Maybe I'll wait until some reviews roll in before I decide, fabulous haul!

I love all of the pictures! I'd love to visit Sydney someday. I also really like to look at pictures of bookstores in other parts of the world, but the labels for the YA section made me laugh: Teen Spirit? That is (was?) a deodorant in the U.S. ;-)

I am kind of afraid to read Julie Kagawa's Blood of Eden series because I loved her Iron Fey series so much, but these books seem so much darker and I'm not sure they would be something I'd enjoy.

Livvy said...

Looks like a very fun week, Mandee! Wow. Look at the size of that YA section. And the city looks beautiful and sunny too! Blue skies... *sighs dreamily*

And those shells are truly beautiful and sparkly.

Ooh, do you not get the Louise Rennison books in your stores? Since I see you are buying out of order?...

Oooh, The Eternity Cure. I'm dying to get that.

Glad you had such a fun week, Mandee! :)

It sounds and looks like you had an awesome week. Sooo jealous!! I'm also practically drooling on my keyboard over Dymock's YA section. I could spend endless hours there!

Oh! Thanks for sharing your pictures from Sydney. Looks amazing, and it sounds like you had the best time. I like how you always find some minutes for a manicure. You will have to do my nails when you come to NYC because I am a mess and a half with them.

Happy reading! Looks like you have a TON.

Cool haul! Those pancakes looks good. Love the pics!:)

OMG to the Dymocks YA section! Reason #582 why I need to get to Australia!! I love your Sydney/Manly pics. I'm picturing Josie and Jacob there.

Your necklace is awesome. It looks all fierce and Game of Thrones-y. :)

I loved Five Parts Dead by Tim Pegler. It's a quick, fun read. Kristan Higgins is so hit-or-miss with me. I think there's only been one book of hers I really enjoyed. I love the poodle on the cover of the Georgia Nicholson book.

Wow! You got a lot of cool books there! :)
Happy reading!

BTW, I'm currently having a giveaway on my blog. You can check it out and join :) FOllower APpreciation GIVEAWAY!

It was lovely to meet you, even though we didn't get to chat as much as I would have liked. It was kind of crazy but there's always next time! I'd really love to come back again soon ♥ I haven't read the first book of The Eternity Cure series but I have it on my shelf and like you, if I enjoy it I'll definitely give the sequel a go. I loved Everything Beautiful so I'm really excited for Girl Defective! I haven't heard much about those Aussie titles you mentioned above so I'm looking forward to seeing what you think of them! Also, I love charity book fairs and can't wait to go to the one held in Perth later this year. Books + helping out a charity = awesome. I've been really behind in my reading and blogging too but hopefully that changes soon. Good luck!

It looks like you guys had fun together! I hope one day I get to come to Sydney and visit you and hang out.

That bookstore looks FAB. Any bookstore with a YA area that huge is a winner with me. And I love the shells too!

Lauren said...

What a fun trip! I clearly need to visit Sydney, if for no other reason than to visit Dymock's! :-)

Love the Georgia Nicolson books, they are so much fun! Can't wait to hear what you think of The Eternity Cure!

Micheline D said...

Wow, what a fun-filled vlog this week! Yay! I also got The Eternity Cure through Netgalley and like you I haven't read The Immortal Rules yet ''Story of my life.'' <-- loved it! Oh and I liked your comment about being keen on reading more teenage boy POV's. I always get excited about that too, we do get SO many girl perspectives and it is a nice change of scenery :)

Now on to the rest - I really like those shells Michelle gave you. We have beaches everywhere over here but no seashells that pretty ♥ I loved all your pictures of the city as well! Dymocks looks like a brilliant book shop!! I don't think I'd ever leave! And your last day visiting Manly (which looks beautiful) & having those yummy looking pancakes :D

The Harlequin Summit looked like a lot of fun, we don't get book expos down here...the closest would probably be in Toronto, which is like a 12 hour + drive. Yikes!

Thanks for sharing Mandee!! I really enjoyed the whole thing :)

I am so glad that you all had such a great time at the Harlequin Summit but really wish I could have been there.

BTW, I loved The Best Man!
